Dog neck size = measurement around the neck where collar will be worn
Usually a prior purchase is a good starting place if you want to measure another collar, but manufacturers vary on measurements depending on a particular product.
It is always best to select a collar size range that your dog's measurement fits within. A rule of thumb is to add four inches to the exact neck measurement taken to find the collar size. (example: 20" neck - 24" collar)
For puppies or young dogs that are still growing, select a size that can be adjusted to allow room for growth.
Don't forget that for a comfortable fit you must allow two fingers to be able to fit between the collar and your dog's neck. Remember, a collar shouldn't be tight around your dog's neck and it wouldn't be the exact measurement of your dog's neck. But for safety reasons....so it doesn't snag on something, it shouldn't be too loose either. A snug fit is what you are
aiming for. Not a tight one or one that chokes.
